Tigers agree to terms with top draft pick Alex Faedo

After an outstanding junior season with the Florida Gators, helping propel them to their first ever Division I baseball championship, Alex Faedo has reportedly inked his professional contract with the Detroit Tigers, foregoing his senior season.

He will, however, not pitch in the Tigers’ organization in 2017.

Faedo, who doesn’t turn 22 until November, was one of the two workhorses atop the Florida rotation in 2017. In 20 games (19 starts), he posted a 9-2 record and a 2.26 ERA, and a K:BB ratio of nearly 4 to 1.

The Tampa product was dominant in the postseason for the Gators as well. In five outings (four starts), he allowed just one earned run in 27.1 innings of work, striking out 44 batters versus 10 walks issued. In the College World Series alone, he pitched 14.1 scoreless frames in two starts, both of which were against Texas Christian University.

Detroit selected Faedo with the No. 18 overall pick back in June’s MLB Amateur Draft. He was named the College World Series’ Most Outstanding Player.
