García is a native of the Dominican Republic and began his professional career in 2016 with the Yankees organization. He made his MLB debut in 2019, appearing in two games for the Yankees. In 2020, he split time between the Yankees and their Triple-A affiliate, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. He struggled a bit in 2020, posting a 7.50 ERA in 12 innings pitched, but he had a much better season in 2019, where he had a 3.65 ERA in 42 innings across Triple-A and the majors.

Rony García played 16 games for the Tigers in 2022, posting a 4.41 ERA in 51 innings pitched.
