The Tigers dropped their second straight as the Giants beat up David Price for 4 runs in the first inning en route to a 5-4 win at Comerica Park today.
Price ended up eating the loss after allowing 5 in 8 and 2/3rds pitched. A string of hits by Buster Posey, Hunter Pence, Pablo Sandoval, Andrew Susac, and Joaquin Arias in the first led to four runs for the Giants. The Tigers responded with a two-run blast off the bat of Miguel Cabrera in the bottom of the first, followed in the third by a home run by Victor Martinez to bring the Tigers within one.
In the fifth, however, Posey hit a home run to left for a 5-3 lead, and even a late home run by Cabrera, his second of the day, could not spark the Tigers into winning this one. The loss leaves the Tigers 2 and a half games out in the AL Central and 1 game back of the Mariners in the Wild Card, with both the Royals and Mariners still to play today.
Madison Bumgarner went six innings and allowed 3 earned on two home runs for the win. The series ends tomorrow at CoPa at 8 pm.
