Tigers ink former catcher Bryan Holaday to minor league deal; will report to Toledo

The Tigers announced on Friday that they have agreed to terms with former Tiger backstop Bryan Holaday on a minor league pact.

The Detroit Tigers have signed catcher Bryan Holaday to a minor league contract. He will be assigned to triple-A Toledo.

The former Tiger Holaday was traded around this time last season just before Opening Day to the Texas Rangers in exchange for a pair of minor leaguers. He played in 44 games with both Texas and the Boston Red Sox, hitting .231 over those games. He also found himself logging some innings defensively at third base, left field and even pitching last year.

Holaday spent parts of four seasons (2012-15) in a Tigers uniform, where in 108 career games he posted a career .251/.283/.340 slash line with three homers and 30 RBI.

Holaday will report to Triple-A Toledo, where he will likely share the catching duties with fellow minor league veteran John Hicks and possibly Miguel Gonzalez as well, both of whom were cut and reassigned to minor league camp this spring.
