Who better for the next wave of Detroit Tigers to learn from than one of the greatest players in franchise history?

Alan Trammell, who is serving as 1st base coach for the Tigers against the St. Louis Cardinals during their series, praised the development of Tigers prospects Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson, both of whom the team are depending on to be a big portion of the future.
Greene, who drafted 5th overall the by the Tigers in 2019, is already “ahead of the curve” in Trammell’s eyes.
“He’s doing quite well; I will say this kid (Greene) is ahead of the curve,” Trammell said. “This experience that he’s gaining this year is invaluable. But he’s not quite ready. Let’s just leave it at that.
“He’s a fine young man and he’s played very well down in Toledo.”
As far as Spencer Torkelson, who was the No. 1 overall selection this past year, it’s been a more difficult transition from 1st to 3rd base due to the fact that no games are being played right now in Toledo.
“You can’t create that,” Trammell said. “You can’t script that (with intrasquad games). You have to be ready, so when balls have been hit, he’s made most of the plays. So that’s what we’re looking for.
“But he needs seasoning, needs some games. He needs a minor league season where he gets that under his belt.
“But he’s been very good.”
