The Detroit Tigers were fortunate to earn the win in a wild matchup last night in Pittsburgh, outlasting the Pirates by a 17-13 final score in 11 innings.
Boyd was pulled from the contest in the 5th inning after yielding seven runs on eight hits and three walks with five strikeouts; he was removed right after giving up Phillip Evans’ three-run homer that put the Pirates back ahead 7-5 in the fifth. So far in 2020, he’s sporting a whopping 9.20 ERA in three starts.
In 2019, he had a fair start to the year, going 6-6, 3.87 ERA, 1.121 WHIP, 142 strikeouts and 20 walks. However, his post-All Star game stats left plenty to be desired with a 5.51 ERA, 96 strikeouts and 30 walks in 78⅓ innings.
His main concern this season is his difficulty locating pitches and an out-of-synch temp.
He’s next scheduled to play this Wednesday against the divisional rival Chicago White Sox. Here’s hoping that he can get it back together.

The Pirates, who play in the National League, had a humorous take on playing in the American League against the Twins:
We’ve seen it all in 2020!
