Tigers News and Notes: Day 4 in Lakeland

Day 4 of Spring Training included reflection on Justin Verlander’s bullpen session from yesterday, talk about Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez and when they may be back, and much more. As expected, the entire Detroit Tigers roster has reported to Lakeland with the exception of Cabrera and Martinez.

Bullpen Session Talk

Justin Verlander had a very impressive bullpen outing yesterday and it did not go unnoticed by Dave Dombrowski or Brad Ausmus. Verlander is looking to have a bounce back season and help the Tigers win a 5th consecutive American League Central crown.

The Tigers are electing to take it easy with pitcher Bruce Rondon, who is coming off of season ending surgery.

Al Alburquerque continues to work on his overall control. It sure would be nice if he could be a consistent arm out of the bullpen this season.

After a sub par bullpen session yesterday, pitcher Joel Hanrahan  may have to take an unexpected detour before heading north with the rest of the team.

Cabrera and V-Mart Update

When it comes to Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez, the Tigers will use extreme caution rather than rushing them back into the lineup.

Dombrowski thinks that the timetable for Cabrera and Martinez to return could be different.

Interesting Stat of the Day

Here is an interesting fact from last year’s team that you may not have been aware of:

Quote of the Day

The quote of the day goes to none other than former Tiger great, Al Kaline while in an exchange with a reporter. I tend to agree with him.

Don’t forget, we are just over a week away from the Tigers opening up their Spring schedule on March 2nd against Florida Southern.
