With the hiring of former University of Michigan pitching coach Chris Fetter, the Detroit Tigers now have one of baseball’s “rising stars” working front and center for them wearing the Old English D.
And although he’s looking forward to his newest challenge, he’s not forgotten his roots in Ann Arbor. Fetter attended Michigan from 2006 to 2009 and was named their pitching coach in 2017. He also previously served as a pitching assistant for Double-A San Antonio and minor-league pitching coordinator for the Los Angeles Dodgers before returning to Michigan.
“Playing and coaching at the University of Michigan has been one of the greatest honors of my life, and I want to thank all our coaches, players and fans for their support while I’ve worn the maize and blue,” Fetter said. “I know how passionate Tigers fans are for their team, and I’m looking forward to help build something special for all of them in Detroit.”
Taking the job in Detroit presents Fetter with a big opportunity, given the number of up and coming pitching prospects the team features.
“Everyone in baseball has noticed the number of young and talented pitchers that this organization has built up over the last few years, and after talking with (general manager) Al (Avila) and A.J. it was clear what a tremendous opportunity this is,” Fetter said in a press release Friday.
