Alex Faedo is making the most of his most recent attempt to stick in the Majors. Over 15.2 innings, he’s struck out twelve batters, walked only one, but has taken a loss in two of his three starts. The reality is that the Tigers starting pitching depth is very weak, which means that Faedo could be around regardless of performance. However, with the recent news of Tarik Skubal’s bullpen sessions going well, time may be running out for either Faedo or fellow starter Joey Wentz. Giolito has been pretty solid for the White Sox, who are coming off a series win against the Cleveland Guardians.

Game 2: Lance Lynn (3-5, 6.28 ERA) v. Joey Wentz (1-4, 7.45 ERA)

The question to be answered in this game is: who is going to suck less? Neither Lance Lynn, nor Joey Wentz have been very good this season. Though, Wentz, to be fair, has shown signs – just not recently. He’s not made it out of the third inning in his last two starts, and being just flat-bad. The White Sox counter with maybe an even bigger disappointment in Lance Lynn, who coming off his World Baseball Classic experience just can’t seem to put it together for the Southsiders. Whoever’s offense can muster up the wherewithal to put the bat on the ball will win this game.

Michael Lorenzen was pitching quite well in his three previous starts before taking the bump in Kansas City earlier in the week. He hit the skids a bit in KC on Monday night going 5.2 and giving up five earned runs. Prior to that outing, he’d gone 20 innings and only surrendered two earned runs in three different starts. He’ll have a chance to rebound against the White Sox team that is 25th in the MLB offensively but has been playing better lately.

Game 4: Dylan Cease (3-3, 4.60 ERA) v. Eduardo Rodriguez (4-4, 2.19 ERA)

A battle of the aces will be a great way to cap the series on Sunday. A week or so ago, Eduardo Rodriguez was the best pitcher in the MLB going 41.2 innings and only surrendering two runs during that time. Since then, in two starts, he’s been less effective going only 10 innings and giving up eight runs (six earned). His command has been an issue for Rodriguez over this current slide, and he’ll need to be sharp against a team that’s won seven of their last ten games.
