On the heels of their annual spring exhibition, Michigan State has added their first wide receiver commit to the Class of 2019, landing a pledge from 3-star Toledo product Jase Bowen.

Bowen (6-1, 178) is rated as the No. 75 wide receiver in the country and a top-25 player in the state of Ohio, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. His commitment to Michigan State comes roughly a month after the Spartans offered him a football scholarship back in mid-March.

Bowen had originally been committed to Notre Dame to play baseball but de-committed from the Irish once he received a football offer from MSU. He’s also been a member of the Motor City Hit Dogs travel baseball program, which is based in Rochester Hills. The shortstop/outfielder intends on playing both football and baseball at Michigan State.

Bowen received a plethora of scholarships this winter in short span, upping his football stock. In addition to offers from Michigan State, the high school junior had offers from the likes of Kentucky, Virginia, Northwestern, and a pair of Mid-American Conference schools in Kent State and Eastern Michigan.

“They made it feel like home,” Bowen said last month about Michigan State. “They recruited me with respect and my family with respect. You can tell they do it right as players come up and introduce themselves. You can tell that they’re coached well and the tradition of Michigan State success and the guys they put at the next level, it all adds up. The way that you’re treated, not only in football but baseball as well, has always sat well with my family and I.”

2019 CLASS COUNTER: 5

The addition of Bowen now gives Michigan State five early commits from the Class of 2019. Bowen is the first recruit pledge to MSU since 3-star athlete Jordan Huff (Madison, GA) made his verbal commitment this past Christmas.

Bowen is also the first player from Ohio, where MSU head coach Mark Dantonio has made a living recruiting players during his tenure in East Lansing. So far, three of his five 2019 pledges are homegrown: 4-star cornerback Julian Barnett (Belleville), 4-star quarterback Dwan Mathis (Oak Park), and 3-star offensive tackle Spencer Brown (Walled Lake Western).
