Michigan State basketball head coach Tom Izzo was being honored as a Hall of Fame inductee in Houston on Monday and was asked about his freshman forward Deyonta Davis, who has yet to make a decision on his playing future.
The 6-foot-10 Muskegon-native is contemplating either returning to MSU for his sophomore season or forgoing his final three years and entering the NBA Draft.
According to Izzo, not much has changed regarding Davis since the Spartans ended their season a couple weeks ago.
“I’ll be honest with you, I think it’s all 50-50,” said Izzo. “I think everybody’s just gathering information.”-MLive
Davis has until April 24th to declare for the NBA Draft, although he could return to school anytime prior to May 25th as long as he does not hire an agent. The former Michigan Mr. Basketball is being projected as a mid-1st round pick by many media outlets and was most recently predicted to go 12th according to ESPN’s Chad Ford.
Izzo has plans to meet with Davis once he returns to East Lansing from a trip to go see former-Spartan Draymond Green play.
While his draft stock will play a huge part in Davis’ decision, Izzo believes there is more that the MSU prospect is considering and that Davis has enjoyed his time in East Lansing.
“Some guys are dying to get out,” Izzo said. “He’s not dying to get out. It makes it a little bit better.”-MLive
