Former Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom called it a career in 2012 after appearing in over 1,000 NHL games, winning four Stanley Cup championships and tallying 530 career points.
And while he didn’t play as big a role in Detroit’s 1997 championship run as he would in the following title runs, he still remembers plenty about those legendary playoffs that saw Hockeytown end a 42-year championship drought.
Holmstrom, who celebrates his 48th birthday today, looked back fondly about what he remembers most about the 1997 Stanley Cup team.
