I am a recent Oakland University graduate. I have been a Detroit sports fan my whole life, especially the Red Wings and Lions. I love writing about sports and all things hockey.

Tomas Jurco has not seen much playing time this season. In fact, he has only played in 11 games coming into tonight’s contest against the Boston Bruins.

Jurco, still only age 24, will get another shot to prove he can stay in the Detroit Red Wings lineup because of injuries to forwards Dylan Larkin and Thomas Vanek. Jurco has been a healthy scratch the last nine games, and only played in three games since mid-December. He has been a healthy scratch over players such as forward Riley Sheahan, who has played in 45 games this season and produced no goals and seven assists.

Jurco proved he can score at the American Hockey League level when he was a member of the Grand Rapids Griffins. Since the 2012-13 season, he has played in 113 games for the Griffins, totaling 33 goals and 71 points. But he has yet to transform those stats to the NHL level, and some question if that will ever happen.

In 154 career NHL games Jurco has only amassed 39 total points, none of which have come this season. An adequate enough showing tonight vs. Boston and he may get a chance to play in back-to-back games for the first time this season.

Detroit will face-off against the Bruins tonight, then they will head home to host the Toronto Maple Leafs tomorrow night at Joe Louis Arena. If Jurco wants to stay in the lineup he must produce and get on the score sheet.
