Tony Dungy believes Lions should bring back familiar face to replace Matt Patricia

Matt Patricia is officially gone as head coach of the Detroit Lions and now the team must decide who will be the right hire to lead the team into the future.

There have been a plethora of hot candidates mentioned, including Kansas City Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy and San Francisco 49ers DC Robert Saleh.

But former Super Bowl Champion head coach Tony Dungy has a different candidate in mind and he is a VERY familiar face around these parts.

Dungy recently joined Rich Eisen on the Rich Eisen Show and he said that he believes the Lions should bring back Jim Caldwell.

“Just listen to Ms. Ford’s press conference when she let him go, that was the most unbelievable thing I have ever heard,” Dungy said. “Hey, our locker room is better, we’ve got great direction, we’ve won more games than we’ve had over any three-year period of time in the last 40 years, our city is better, our players believe in him but we are going in another direction. Come on. That says a lot right there.”

“If I were them, I would bring Jim Caldwell back and say hopefully we can fix this thing,” he said.

Nation, how would you feel about the Lions bringing back Jim Caldwell?

  1. Age doesn’t matter. Coaches and players matter. If I was Jim I would not go back although he would be a good choice. If they did not appreciate him the first time they won’t the next. Move on!

  2. Who in their right mind, players included, would want to go to ‘ detroit’ ??!?!!….seriously, nuffins good comes outta compton north…

  3. His results were markedly better than the “genius” that they replaced him with. Plus he’s better groomed than Patricia.

  4. As much as I respect Tony Dingy, I watched Jim Caldwell every game he coached the Lions. While the players played hard for him, and the liked having him as a coach, he was not a very good in game coach. Going back to a former coach will not bring the success that Lions fans deserve.

  5. I think they ought to kick that bald headed idiot Tony (brain dead)Dingy out on his ass! Big deal, he won one Super Bowl!!!! If I were the Commisioner I would ban him from doing anything even remotely pertaining to football forever!!!!!!

Bull Tony was a hell of a player and as coach he took a team in Tampa that couldn’t even end in second in the lions division . So you opinion is just that and not based on facts. You don’t agree then state your facts but do not trash Dungy because you do not like him or what he says. Because I would like to hear your football credits because by the sound of it you have none

  6. They need to bring in a younger version of Caldwell , and a G.M. That will get him the right players. Just what the pistons and the red wings have done. Their going to be winners . They have the right people.

  7. Hey, while we are at it, let’s see if Wayne Fontes will come back. Give us a break Tony. We’ve sucked for 50 years. Sure don’t need Jimmy back here.

  8. I knew it would be a black coach. Tony is the ultimate racist who’s kept that hidden.a long time.jim sucked as bad as Dungy.
