Top 15 college football programs this century

[tps_title]14. Clemson Tigers[/tps_title]

The most recent “close but yet so far” example is from the underwhelming ACC. With the gradual decline of the Miami (FL) program and constant mediocrity of Virginia Tech, the Clemson Tigers and head coach Dabo Swinney have taken the ACC by storm.

Players like Deshaun Watson, Tajh Boyd, Sammy Watkins, DeAndre Hopkins, C. J. Spiller, Vic Beasley, and Da’Quan Bowers are all prime examples of the astute talent coming from Clemson, SC. Death Valley hasn’t seen success and talent of that caliber since the 1980s, and it would seem that this school will only trend upward. There’s even a chance they get higher on this list as soon as next year.

The problem with Clemson is that they simply have underwhelmed in the 2000s in their bowl games. From 2006-11, the Tigers had lost five of six bowl games. However, they have seemed to turn it around, having won four straight bowl games and a spot in the CFB Playoff championship game this past season.

With the talent that has come through Clemson however, they must be docked some spots because they should have more than one national title contention appearance.
