[tps_title]12. TCU Horned Frogs[/tps_title]
No team has risen as fast and as strongly as the TCU Horned Frogs.
TCU went from utter obscurity to joining a major football conference and consistently performing in the top tier of college football. The Horned Frogs have made 14 bowl appearances since 2000, coming out on top in nine of those 14. These victories included wins against Oregon, Wisconsin, Boise State, and Ole Miss.
The 2014 campaign, in particular, is evidence of the staying power of the Horned Frogs and their role in the national discussion in college football. If they hadn’t gotten robbed by the College Football Playoff committee, the Horned Frogs would easily be higher on this list.
Despite the 2014 injustice, TCU has still shown fantastic promise and head coach Gary Patterson has seemingly built a new program amongst the college football elite. It doesn’t seem that they will be going anywhere either; evidenced by the Horned Frogs resiliency amplified by a 31 point comeback in the 2016 Valero Alamo Bowl.
The only dock against the Horned Frogs is that they played against primarily lower-tier competition for most of the century thus far. Bowl wins against Louisiana Tech, Iowa State, Northern Illinois, and Colorado State show consistency but does not ‘wow’ like much further up on the list have done year in and year out.
Timing is the only issue with TCU right now, but in five years their spot could easily improve.
