18. NICKLAS LIDSTROM JERSEY RETIREMENT NIGHT
Legendary Hall of Fame defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom called it a career in 2012 after having played 1,564 games with Detroit, winning four Stanley Cup championships, seven Norris Trophies, one Conn Smythe Trophy, 12 NHL All-Star games, and having never missed the playoffs. He was an easy choice to take over as team captain when Steve Yzerman retired in 2006, and he wore the “C” for six seasons.
On March 7, 2014 before a game against the Avalanche, the Red Wings officially retired Lidstrom’s No. 5 jersey, and raised a banner to the Joe Louis Arena rafters. His was the seventh jersey the Red Wings retired.
