17. 1997 WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS, GAME 4
The Red Wings and Avalanche met in the Western Conference Finals for the second straight season in 1997; the first match-up gave birth to what was arguably the greatest rivalry in sports. The Avalanche took Game 1 in Denver, but consecutive wins by the Red Wings gave them a 2-1 series lead heading into Game 4 at Joe Louis Arena. The game was no contest – Detroit dominated Colorado, winning by a 6-0 final score and chasing Patrick Roy from the net.
The game also featured several brawls, and included coaches Scotty Bowman and Marc Crawford jawing at each other from the benches. The victory gave Detroit a 3-1 series lead.
