Top 5 NHL trade-deadline deals in Detroit Red Wings history

The 2021 NHL Trade Deadline will come and go at 3 p.m. on Monday and there is a solid chance that the Detroit Red Wings make another trade before that moment passes.

Unfortunately, the Red Wings are currently sellers as GM Steve Yzerman continues to rebuild the team. This means any trades this season likely will never be included in a list including the top trade-deadline deals in Red Wings team history.

That being said, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press put out a list of what she believes are the top 5 trade-deadline deals in Red Wings history, and there sure have been some good ones.

Here is a look at what St. James believes are the top 5 trade-deadline deals in Red Wings history.

Click here to see here breakdown of each trade.

No. 5

Acquired: Brad Stuart from the Los Angeles Kings.

Gave up: Second-round pick in 2008 (Peter Delmas) and fourth-round pick in 2009 (Ben Chiarot).

No. 4

Acquired: Defenseman Slava Fetisov from the New Jersey Devils.

Gave up: A third-round pick in 1995 (David Gosselin).

No. 3

Acquired: Kirk Maltby from the Edmonton Oilers.

Gave up: Dan McGillis.

No. 2

Acquired: Defenseman Larry Murphy from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Gave up: Future considerations (which ended up being … nothing).

No. 1

Acquired: Chris Chelios from the Chicago Blackhawks.

Gave up: Defenseman Anders Ericsson and first-round picks in 1999 (Steve McCarthy) and 2001 (Adam Munro).

Let’s hope that Yzerman can get things turned around so that he can someday add a trade or two to this list.
