5. Brendan Shanahan
The Red Wings acquired what would be the final piece to their first Stanley Cup in 42 years in Brendan Shanahan. He was well-known for his scoring abilities, but he was equally feared for his ability to use the fists. Red Wings fans will forever remember him being right in the middle of the legendary “Fight Night at the Joe” on March 26, 1997, as well as his future bouts against Avalanche players and other NHL opponents. Shanahan could put the puck in the net with ease – but certainly wasn’t afraid to mix it up, and did so plenty.
