The slow day continues with only one deal, and another juicy rumor during the noon to one pm hour.
To Columbus Blue Jackets: Sami Lepisto, Scottie Upshall
To Phoenix Coyotes: Rostislav Klesla, Dane Byers
Columbus’ perspective: Upshall is a pain in the ass who will get under the skin of his opponents and put up over 30 points. Lepisto is a good puck mover on the blue line. He has shown a lot of offensive upside playing in the AHL and is now in his second full season in the NHL.
Phoenix’ perspective: Rostislav Klesla was the first ever selection by the Columbus Blue Jackets in their Expansion Draft. He began playing in the NHL at just 18 years old and never really materialized into a top flight defenseman. Phoenix is taking a chance that a reduced role will result in better play from him. I’d say Columbus’ wins this trade hands down unless Klesla really elevates his play. Byers has been scrapping his way through Canada’s junior ranks and now the AHL.
The Maple Leafs are reportedly working on a deal with the Nashville Predators where Clarke MacArthur would be heading to Nashville, and one of the pieces going back would be prospect Ryan Ellis. Ellis is the captain of the back-to-back defending Memorial Cup Champion Windsor Spitfires.
