Trade with Washington Football Team would land Detroit Lions with another future 1st Round pick

What will the Detroit Lions do when they are on the clock with the No. 7 overall pick in the 1st Round of the 2021 NFL Draft?

Well, if I was running the show, I would do everything in my power to trade down (unless the QB I am in love with fell into my lap) as I really don’t love any of the players who will likely be available at No. 7. That is because there is no way in hell I am taking a wide receiver in the top 10, and taking an off-the-ball linebacker at No. 7 may not be the value I am looking for out of a top 10 pick.

While playing around with the Pro Football Focus Mock Draft generator, which allows you to make trades, I was able to make a realistic deal with the Washington Football Team that would land the Lions with another future 1st Round pick.

As you can see below the Lions would give up the No. 7 overall pick (Washington selected Trey Lance) in exchange for the No. 19 overall pick in 2021, the No. 51 overall pick in 2021, and their 1st Round pick in 2022.

By making this trade, the Lions would put themselves in a position to get some good value out of the No. 19 pick, and additional draft capital to work with, which is huge considering a rebuild is underway.

Since I was playing around with the mock, I figured I would finish it out and, to be honest, I don’t hate how it turned out. Not only was I able to get some defensive help (Owusu-Koramoah, Turner, and Thomas), but I was also able to solidify the offensive tackle positions (Cosmi), add a pair of talented (yet underrated) WRs (Wallace and Johnson), and a running back (Sermon) be D’Andre Swift’s partner in crime in the Lions’ backfield.
