Prior to the 2019 season, the Detroit Lions signed then free agent DE Trey Flowers to a 5-year, $90 million contract.
The hope was that Flowers would be the difference-maker on a Lions defense that struggled to get to opposing quarterbacks a year ago.

Unfortunately, through the Lions first six games, Flowers had just one sack and a total of three quarterback hits. Though he was doing a good job defending the run, Flowers is paid the big bucks to get to the quarterback.
On Sunday, in a win over the New York Giants, Flowers finally did what the Lions (and their fans) had been hoping for and he did it at a big time.
According to the Detroit Lions PR department, Flowers recorded full sacks on consecutive plays in the 4th quarter on Sunday. It was the first time a Lions defender recorded sacks on consecutive plays on the same drive since DT Kelvin Pritchett did so nearly 25 years ago.

The Lions are certainly going to need more of this from Flowers moving forward if they want to make a run at the playoffs.
