Trio of Detroit Lions come to Matt Patricia’s defense

In nearly two seasons with the Detroit Lions, head coach Matt Patricia has led the team to a record of 9-19-1 and there has been plenty of speculation that his players are not buying into his message.

Following the Lions’ latest loss, their ninth in the last ten games, a trio of Lions were asked if they still buying into Patricia’s message.

All three players made it clear that Patricia’s message is a good one and that the players have to execute rather than continuing to shoot themselves in the foot.

From Lions Wire:

Left tackle Taylor Decker was questioned after the game about if the coach’s message is still valid.

“The messages may be the same week after week, but that doesn’t mean it’s not valid, so I don’t think it’s lost any validity in that aspect,” Decker stated. “There is a lot of stuff that we do out there to really shoot ourselves in the foot. That comes down to our execution, preparation, and our overall individual performances.

Safety Tracy Walker was asked almost the exact same question. Walker’s answer closely echoes what Decker said, too.

“No, because at the end of the day he is telling us the right thing,” Walker said. “We just keep beating ourselves. Like I said, we got to continue to go out there and work to fix these same problems because if you do not fix them, they are going to continue to keep happening.”

Trey Flowers, a man of few words, used some of the same thoughts in his response,

“Everybody understands the message. We work to win. We understand what it takes to win. We just need to do it and do it consistently.”

Nation, players are saying they are buying what Patricia is selling, but are you buying that the players are being 100% honest?
