Two more Detroit Red Wings players added to COVID-19 list

The Detroit Red Wings are beginning to experience additional problems thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Already down two players in Robby Fabbri and Adam Erne, two additional players were added to the COVID protocol list today: forward Sam Gagner and defenseman Jon Merrill.

Gagner has yet to register a point in four games this season, while Merrill has one assist with a +1 plus/minus rating.

Players who land on the COVID protocol list are being kept away from the rest of the team out of caution, not necessarily because they’ve contracted the illness.

Michael Rasmussen and Frans Nielsen took the places of Fabbri and Erne in the lineup; two additional players from the team taxi squad will likely be replacing Gagner and Merrill ahead of tomorrow’s matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks.
