Haywood arrived in Ann Arbor as a highly regarded prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, ranked as a top-50 recruit nationally. Despite the hype, his on-field opportunities were limited during his lone season with Michigan. As a true freshman in 2025, Haywood appeared in just four games, logging 21 total snaps while working primarily as a developmental depth piece along the offensive line.

Given Michigan’s veteran-heavy offensive line room and emphasis on experience in the trenches, Haywood never carved out a regular role. Entering the portal now allows him to preserve eligibility while seeking a clearer path to playing time elsewhere.

Haywood’s departure continues a busy transfer portal period for Michigan as the Wolverines adjust their roster following the 2025 season. With multiple young linemen still developing and portal additions likely on the way, Michigan is expected to remain active in reshaping its offensive front heading into 2026.
