Tyler Bertuzzi explains what he’ll do while his team plays in Canada

Detroit Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi made headlines prior to this season when it was revealed that he was the lone Red Wings player on the roster to have refused the COVID-19 vaccination, and is also one of only four players in the NHL to have done the same.

He won't be able to participate in games his team plays in Canadian cities thanks to health and safety protocols, and he'll be missing his first game this Saturday when Detroit visits the Montreal Canadiens.

Bertuzzi, who is tied for the NHL lead in goals scored so far on the young season with five, plans to watch and cheer on his teammates from home.

“I’ll be watching and cheering on the guys from home,” Bertuzzi said. “I’ll be back with them on Sunday.”

Bertuzzi has exploded out of the gate so far this season, tallying four goals against the Lightning in last Thursday's home opener and also adding another goal during last night's win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. He missed all but eight games last season before a nagging back issue necessitated surgery.
