For the Detroit Red Wings, offensive help is on the way. Wings coach Derek LaLonde reported that Forward Tyler Bertuzzi would return tomorrow night when the Winnipeg Jets come to town.
Bertuzzi has been back skating with the team for over a week now, and LaLonde said last week he was about a week away from returning, well, that day has come.
What the return of Tyler Bertuzzi means
Bertuzzi had missed some significant time this season when earlier in the season, he missed time due to a hand injury. He returned and wound up getting hurt again when he suffered another hand injury on November 30th against the Buffalo Sabres.
With the return of Tyler Bertuzzi, the Red Wings will get their second-leading scorer from the 2021-22 season, when he scored 30 goals and had 32 assists for 62 points. This season he has scored one goal and tallied three assists for four points while only appearing in nine games. Before the injury, Bertuzzi was getting hot as he had three points in five games with a goal and two assists.
Perfect Timing For The Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings could seriously use some offensive help after dropping three straight games to the New Jersey Devils, Florida Panthers, and Toronto Maple Leafs. In those three games, the Red Wings were outscored 12-4. Bertuzzi was skating with his regular linemates at practice this morning, Lucas Raymond and Dylan Larkin, so he will be right back on that first line where he has seen a lot of success.
Bert will also be on the power play as he was playing with Larkin, Robby Fabbri, David Perron, and Filip Hronek on the first power play unit, a unit the Red Wings could certainly use a lot of help on. Let’s hope Bert wastes no time and find a way to put the puck in the back of the net tomorrow night and help the Red Wings win.
