Tyler Collins out with lat injury, lineup for today

Spring Training has claimed its first casualty, Tyler Collins. Reports came out today that Collins suffered a lat strain, “up near the armpit, while attempting to throw long toss,” according to Jason Beck.

Although Collins doesn’t think that he will miss much time, Jeff Seidel reports that it’ll likely be at least 10-14 days before Collins can begin throwing again, although he can still hit and run.

This could not come at a worse time for Collins as he is one of three, possibly four, guys competing for the vacant center field job. Mikie Mahtook, an offseason acquisition, made the start yesterday and smashed a double off the wall in center field for and RBI in the first inning. Today, Anthony Gose will get the nod in center field, when the Tigers take on the Baltimore Orioles at 1:05 EST.

Today’s lineup v. Baltimore Orioles:

  1. Ian Kinsler (2B)
  2. Victor Martinez (DH)
  3. Miguel Cabrera (1B)
  4. J.D. Martinez (RF)
  5. Justin Upton (LF)
  6. Omar Infante (3B)
  7. Alex Avila (C)
  8. Anthony Gose (CF)
  9. Jose Iglesias (SS)
