University of Cincinnati considering Brayden Coombs for defensive coordinator

Former Detroit Lions special teams coordinataor Brayden Coombs was dismissed by the team in late December after allegedly going rogue with a fake punt call that wasn’t approved by interim head coach Darrell Bevell.

It wans’t expected to be long for Coombs, who helped lead Detroit’s special teams to new heights despite a poor overall 2020 campaign, to find new employment. And it appears that he’s on the verge of doing just that.

According to a report from NFL Insider Chris Burke, Coombs is among the candidates being considered for the defensive coordinator position at the University of Cincinnati:

Coombs has a previous connection to the city of Cincinnati, having coached with the Bengals for a decade after playing at the University of Miami (Ohio).

The position became open at the university following the departure of Marcus Freeman to Notre Dame.
