The season may be over for Matthew Stafford following the Detroit Lions loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the first round of the NFL Playoffs, but as any father can tell you, his real work is about to begin.
Stafford and his wife Kelly are preparing for the birth of twin girls and that is priority number one for the Lions signal-caller.
At the conclusion of the season, Stafford sat down with Tori Petry of DetroitLions.com and talked about preparing for the birth of his daughters.
“I don’t know if anyone’s ready for (twin girls),” Stafford joked when talking with DetroitLions.com after the season. “I’m going to be outnumbered pretty quick there, but it’s going to be fun.”
Circumstance of the season has prevented Stafford from immersing himself in the preparation, and he admitted that work on the nursery is going to come down to the wire, even though his wife has been getting the job done.
“Kelly’s been great all season. I’ve been locked in on football and she’s understood that so I’m sure she’s been doing work behind the scenes,” he said. “In the next couple weeks, I’m sure it will really start going.”
Regardless, Stafford knows that the experience is going to be incredible.
“It’s going to be unbelievable. It’s going to be crazy. I’m excited. Kelly’s excited, people around town have been extremely nice to us telling us good luck and giving us all the advice we can take so it’s going to be a game changer, but it’s going to be fun,” he said.
