Urban Meyer reveals Ohio State’s biggest obstacle this year, and it isn’t Michigan

Former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer had his way with the Michigan Wolverines during his tenure in Columbus, holding a perfect 7-0 record against the chief rival in what he called his “proudest” accomplishment.

Unsurprisingly, Meyer threw some more shade at Michigan earlier today, saying that it wasn’t the Wolverines who present the biggest threat for the Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day.

“With recruiting the last few years, with just the roster, I would have to go with Penn State,” Meyer said during an appearance on Big Ten Network earlier today.

“So, from just pure talent, I would say the challenger of the East — and the challenger of the Big Ten — is Penn State.”

However, Meyer suggested that the Buckeyes will have an advantage by not having to face the normally intimidating fan base at State College.

“That is ridiculous, to go in there and play,” Meyer said. “It’s just going to be a scrimmage atmosphere now in State College.

Of course, Meyer was sure to say that the Buckeyes should never lose sight of who their true “enemy” is.

“The rivalry is always going to be there, and you better take that one (seriously),” Meyer said. “Everybody in Columbus, Ohio — and most importantly, everybody in that Woody Hayes (athletic) facility — the enemy is very clearly identified. That’s the Wolverines.”

Per Harbaugh, defensive tackle Carlo Kemp, defensive end Kwity Paye, defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, linebacker Josh Ross, fullback Ben Mason, tight end Nick Eubanks and center Andrew Vastardis will all serve as captains for the Wolverines this year.

“All those guys are just very deserving, top-shelf players and leaders,” Harbaugh said.
