Game Notes:

Oct 2, 2016; Atlanta, GA, USA; Detroit Tigers left fielder Justin Upton (8) bats against the Atlanta Braves in the fifth inning at Turner Field. Mandatory Credit: Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

This game started very rough for the Tigers. By the end of the second inning they were already down 5-0, and ace Justin Verlander was struggling to find the strike zone and record outs. Add to that they Corey Kluber mowed down our lineup through three innings, striking out seven of the first 11 batters he faced, and you had a recipe for disaster. But, they persisted. At one point the Tigers found themselves down 7-0, but they fought back to 7-3, then 9-3; fighting back once more to 9-6. The second, yes second, 3-run home run for Jose Ramirez extended the lead to 12-6 and the Indians tacked on one more winning the game 13-6.

However, Justin Upton, had himself a day with a double, home run, and single. The home run extended the Tigers current home run streak to start the season, moving that number to 11 games, which continues to add to their franchise record set back in the eighth game of the season. Tomorrow the club will look to continue this already impressive streak.

Looking Ahead:

The Tigers wrap up their series with the Cleveland Indians in the rubber match of the series tomorrow at 1:10 EST. Matt Boyd (1-1, 5.40 ERA) faces off against Carlos Carrasco (1-0, 2.13 ERA). Boyd is coming off one of his best starts of his career, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning. He will need to be every bit as good in order to shut down this scary Indians offense.
