Even 10 years later, this call is still hard to watch!
Let’s set the scene for those of you who don’t remember: The Western Conference Semi-Finals between the Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks, Game 3, Honda Center. The Ducks are clinging to a one goal lead late in the third period, when suddenly a lose puck at the side of the goal evades goaltender Jonas Hiller, and is poked into the net by a diving Marian Hossa to tie the score!
Except, the referee lost sight of the puck, and disallowed the goal.
Because it was a non-reviewable play, the Red Wings were on the unfortunate end of a horrible miscalculation by the game’s officials, and the Ducks would win Game 3. Justice would prevail, however, as the Red Wings would eventually win the series in seven games.
