Video: Chris Paul Honors Young Fan in Touching Moment at the Palace

It was a special night in Auburn Hills for Los Angeles Clippers superstar Chris Paul. Paul’s 14 third quarter points help drive his team to a 104-98 victory over the Detroit Pistons. However, it was his moves off the court that left the biggest impact Wednesday evening at the Palace.

After catching wind of 13-year-old Jack Gallagher’s YouTube video story on his late mother’s battle with brain cancer, Paul heeded his young fan’s request of wearing the initials of Gallagher’s mother.

But Paul wasn’t done there. CP3 arranged for Gallagher, an Erie, Pennsylvania native, to travel to Detroit to watch Paul’s Clippers take on the Pistons courtside. During the pre-game shootaround, Paul surprised Gallagher with a brand new pair of his signature shoe, to replace the pair Gallagher’s mom had purchased him a year earlier (he’d since grown out of them).

In addition to meeting with Gallagher and his father prior to the game, Paul brought Jack into the Clippers locker room for a post-game meet-and-greet, culminating with Jack breaking the team huddle.

Paul has a history of paying tribute to lost loved ones on the basketball court. While in high school, just days after losing his grandfather, he vowed to score one point for every single year of his grandfather’s life. He proceeded to score 61 points, matching his grandfather’s age on the dot.
