This playoff run didn’t end the way we wanted (we shall not discuss that), but the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs provided plenty of memories for Detroit Red Wings fans!
The Red Wings matched up against their Original 6 rival Chicago Blackhawks in the 2009 Western Conference Finals. Following a 5-2 victory in Game 1, the two teams found themselves in overtime in Game 2. A miscue by Chicago defenseman Brian Campbell sprung Red Wings forwards Jiri Hudler, Valtteri Filppula, and Mikael Samuelsson. A pretty passing play led to a one-time snipe from Samuelsson past goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin, giving the Red Wings the 3-2 victory and a 2-0 series lead!
You leave a pitch there and naturally Nick is going to crush it. 🚀#MotorOn pic.twitter.com/jfaCz1QURw
