Watch: Steve Ott talks about being traded from Red Wings

Veteran forward Steve Ott always wanted to play for the Detroit Red Wings, and this summer he got his wish, signing a one-year deal with the team he grew up idolizing.

But due to the Red Wings’ struggles, they decided to become sellers at this year’s trade deadline and Ott was one piece of the team that was traded for future assets. Following Detroit’s trade of defenseman Brendan Smith to the New York Rangers, Ott was dealt to the Montreal Canadiens for a 2018 draft pick.

In 42 games with the Red Wings, Ott scored three goals to go with three assists and 63 PIM.

Shortly after being traded, Ott shared his thoughts on the move and expressed gratitude at having been able to play for Detroit.

Good luck in Montreal, Steve!
