Matthew Stafford is now the highest paid player in NFL history after inking a 5-year, $135 million extension with the Detroit Lions. The deal includes a NFL record $50 million signing bonus and a record $92 million guaranteed.
Though some are confused as to how Stafford can become the highest paid player in the league when he is not the best player in the league, the Lions signal-caller would have gotten paid no matter how things played out.
In 2016, led the Lions to the NFL Playoffs after what turned out to be a very exciting regular season.
