Manuel Reflects on 11 Years at Michigan

In his statement, Manuel highlighted the success of Michigan’s athletic department and thanked those who have helped build one of the nation’s premier athletic programs.

“I am very proud of all the successes and accomplishments of our athletic department over the past 11 years. We have tremendous coaches and professionals who support our outstanding student athletes every day.”

Committed to Helping Michigan Move Forward

Rather than immediately stepping away, Manuel confirmed he intends to remain with the university through the transition and assist Grasso with implementing recommendations stemming from the independent review of Michigan Athletics.

“I am happy President Grasso asked me to stay on to work with him to implement the recommendations for continuous improvement. I promise everyone I will have more to say about my decision at the appropriate time.”

While Manuel did not elaborate on the circumstances surrounding his departure, his comment suggests he plans to speak more extensively in the coming weeks or months.

He concluded his statement with a simple message to the Michigan community:
