The Detroit Pistons are working hard as they make their final preparations for the 2017-2018 NBA season and though Andre Drummond has been a busy man, he recently took some time to surprise a Special Olympics basketball team from Michigan.

It was practice as usual for the Kennedy Panthers basketball team on Wednesday night in Pontiac – that is until Detroit Pistons star Andre Drummond showed up to surprise the Special Olympics athletes at their practice. Drummond met with the team. Then, despite wearing street clothes, decided to jump in on practice as well. Drummond spent some time in the paint challenging players as they drove to the hoop, then he worked on his ball handling skills and shots from beyond the arc. At the end of practice, the team asked Drummond to take some shots from half court. He obliged, drawing rim on both shots. Drummond then turned to Panthers Center Pierre Wallace Lee and told him it was his turn to take two shots. Wallace only needed one, dropping the shot from half court! The Kennedy Panthers will represent Team Michigan at the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games in Seattle next July. Drummond, who is a Special Olympics Ambassador, hopes to build on his newfound friendship with the team as they continue to prep for next year’s USA Games.
The Pistons have one more preseason game (Friday against the Milwaukee Bucks) before tipping off their 2017-2018 campaign at Little Caesars Arena on Oct. 18 against the Charlotte Hornets. Detroit will look to get back to the NBA Playoffs after a disappointing 2016-2017 season.
