WATCH: Detroit Tigers top-5 prospect drills first spring training home run

Everyone remembers the night Justin Verlander was traded. JV’s departure was the icing on the cake of the complete and utter tear down of the Detroit Tigers. The return for the face of the franchise was a nice return, including a top pitcher, catcher, and position player. One of those players, that could eventually help to heal the pain of loss, is Daz Cameron, a toolful prospect with an MLB pedigree.

Cameron has shown the skills defensively to hang at the Major League level, just check this out:

Cameron spent most the season between Single and Double-A last season, seeing only 15 games in Triple-A toward the end of the season. He raked with the Erie SeaWovles—Detroit’s Double-A affiliate—to a tune of .285/.367/.470 with five home runs and 35 RBIs.

In a Spring Training game against the vaunted New York Yankees, Daz Cameron showed out, taking a Masahiro Tanaka pitch deep to right field. Enjoy the sound and the look of the Tigers center fielder of the future:

It is ultimately why the club signed him to a record-setting $7.5 million and why he has soared to the top spot among the team’s top prospects.
