On the third play of the Detroit Lions‘ final preseason game of 2016 against the Buffalo Bills, rookie running back Dwayne Washington pretty much solidified himself as a member of the final 53-man roster for the Lions.
Washington took a hand-off from quarterback Dan Orlovsky to the outside, eluded a tackle near the sidelines that really should have put him out-of-bounds, and just turned the jets on as he made his way to the end zone.
Have a look for yourself…

With the release of running back Stevan Ridley, it’s left Washington and second year back Zach Zenner as the guys who are vying for the third spot on the depth chart at the running back position. They both bring different elements to the table, but Washington seems to have the edge with that extra burst of speed that can really be utilized a great deal on special teams.
