Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander has put together a very decorated career on the mound in his now 13 major league seasons. However, like the majority of pitchers, he has had very little to no success when picking up a bat.
Of course being in the American League, Verlander and his AL counterparts don’t get to hit nearly as much as pitchers in the senior circuit. The 34-year-old entering his start on Wednesday was 0 for 3 this season and a career 3 for 40, or a .075 batting average.
Back on the bump on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies allowed him to get some hacks in, and subsequently cash in with his first career RBI. With two on and two out in the first inning, Verlander singles in his battery mate James McCann, off Rockies pitcher Chad Bettis, gave the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.
