WATCH: Matt Patricia talks about how his second offseason with the Detroit Lions compares to the first

If you watched Matt Patricia‘s press conferences and appearances a year ago, there was a sense of uneasiness about him. It’s no knock on the Detroit Lions’ head coach as he was put in a position where he and his newly hired staff had to play catch up because he was coming from a team that made the Super Bowl.

On Tuesday, Patricia appeared on the NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” show and he was asked about the differences between this offseason compared to his first with the Lions.

“The first offseason is kind of crazy,” Patricia said. “For us, and where I was at in my previous job, coming off the Super Bowl, we’re kind of thrust into the middle of the offseason program where a lot of teams are already ahead of you. It was full catchup mode, like drinking from the firehose. You just try to hang in there as long as you can.”

Patricia said that this offseason has been different.

“It’s been great, had a chance to really settle down and take a look at last season,” Patricia said. “Trying to figure out areas to improve overall, starting with me as a coach and how I can do better. To the assistant coaches and to the roster. It’s been refreshing from that standpoint.”

Patricia knows he has a lot of work ahead of him, as he did a year ago.

That being said, he seems much more comfortable this time around. Hopefully, that will translate into wins.
