Many of the recently drafted MLB prospects from the high school and college ranks have begun prepping and conditioning for their professional career, and even signed their pro contracts.

But there's some — like Tigers' top selection Alex Faedo — who are still playing out their season.

Faedo and his Florida Gators played their first game of the 2017 NCAA Division I College World Series on Sunday; the event began on Saturday. It's the third consecutive appearance in the CWS for Florida.

In their opening round game vs. Texas Christian, Faedo started for the Gators and turned in a brilliant performance. He pitched seven shutout innings against a very tough Horned Frogs team, limiting them to just two hits and two walks, striking out 11. Florida went on to win 3-0, advancing through the winner's bracket of the CWS.

The No. 18 overall selection of the Detroit Tigers in last week's MLB Draft showed why he was first-round potential on Sunday.

TCU head coach Jim Schlossnagle, who has been the Frogs' head coach since 2004 and a college baseball coach in general for nearly 30 years now, gave high praise to Faedo after he mowed down his team's offense on Sunday.

Faedo and Florida will take the field next on Tuesday, June 20 at 7 p.m. ET against (7) Louisville, who also won their opening round match-up on Sunday (click here for the updated bracket). You can watch the Gators' and all of the College World Series action over the next week-plus on the ESPN family of networks.
