Many coaches in sports, college and professional, are quite influential off the field/court/ice when they are not barking out orders from the bench. Some even make sure to have some fun along the way, making friends here and there.

Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo is no exception. As fiery and passionate as he can be on the floor, he’s as calm, cool and collected as anyone else off the floor as well. That includes when he is making special cameo appearances on reality TV shows.

What? Yeah, Izzo appeared on the latest episode of Judge Mathis because… well, why not?

Smile, coach! You’re on TV! How about that facial reaction from Izzo after the woman makes her claim? He looks more distraught than when one of his players misses a defensive assignment.

As many of you know, Mathis is retired Supreme Court justice and he presides over the 36th District Court of Michigan based in Detroit, as part of the syndicated reality court television program. Judge Mathis is the second-longest running such series of its kind; second only to Judge Judy.

Mathis deals specifically with tort claims in his trials. In this particular instance, the gentleman who is the defendant claims to be a a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Well Mathis did not take too kindly to that, and reminded the defendant of his special guest in attendance on Tuesday.

Mathis’ story is pretty well-documented, having a troublesome childhood before turning a corner and becoming the youngest judge ever in state history. In this clip, he highlights how his daughter previously served as a student assistant to Izzo when she was at Michigan State.

Apparently, Izzo is a regular guest on Judge Mathis? There’s something to watch for. Also in the video is a long-time assistance coach for Izzo, Mike Garland, seated to the left of him. How about the shirt game for both? Impressive.
