FERRIS STATE BULLDOGS (12-17-4, 11-12-3 WCHA @ LAKE SUPERIOR STATE LAKERS (11-15-6, 8-12-6 WCHA)
A strong showing from Ferris State last weekend earned them a sweep of Alaska-Anchorage at home. Conversely, Lake Superior was just 0-1-1 last against the other Great Frontier club, picking up just two point against the Nanooks of Fairbanks.
Now comes a much-anticipated season finale between the Bulldogs and Lakers this weekend up in Sault Ste. Marie. Both rivals appear to be going in opposite directions as the curtain comes down on the year. Ferris has won four of their last five, while LSSU is without a win in regulation in six consecutive games. Will those trends continue this weekend?
Ferris won both meetings earlier in the season in Big Rapids. Now the scene shifts to the U.P., but it may not matter. The Lakers have just two wins in their last eight games at home against the Bulldogs.

MICHIGAN WOLVERINES (9-16-3, 2-10-2 Big Ten)
It’s evident that there’s virtually no margin for error in Big Ten hockey. Both Michigan and rival Michigan State are learning that the hard way. The Wolverines dropped two more on the road last weekend in Madison.
The good news is that Michigan plays their final road series of the season this weekend. The bad news is because of the Big Ten being death row, there’s no hiding places. This week, it’s another date with Ohio State. The No. 12 Buckeyes (16-8-6, 7-6-1 Big Ten) are coming off a sweep of the Spartans in East Lansing.
It’s going to be challenging, but the goaltending for Michigan needs to improve fast. Whether it’s been Hayden Lavigne, Zach Nagelvoort or Jack LaFontaine between the pipes, the trio has allowed four or more goals in six straight games.

MICHIGAN STATE SPARTANS (6-19-3, 2-10-2 Big Ten)
As we briefly mentioned already, MSU got swept last weekend at home against the Buckeyes, albeit a pair of one-goal affairs. Still, it drops their record at Munn this season to a dreadful 2-11-1.
And fittingly (or not, perhaps), the Spartans conclude their home slate this weekend when Penn State pays a visit to East Lansing. Now the Nittany Lions (18-8-2, 7-6-1 Big Ten) have cooled off some in the last few weeks, just two wins in regulation in their last nine games. They will surely be coming in a bit chippy after getting swept at home against Minnesota last weekend.
It wasn’t pretty for the Spartans the last time these two met, back in mid-January. PSU hung a 5-spot in each game that weekend en route to a comfortable sweep.

MICHIGAN TECH HUSKIES (17-12-7, 14-6-6 WCHA) vs. NORTHERN MICHIGAN WILDCATS (11-19-4, 9-14-3 WCHA)
The Huskies enjoyed a week off from action before their regular season finale against Yooper conference foe Northern Michigan, who saw their six-game winning streak come to a screeching halt last weekend on the road against Minnesota State; was also nine straight games without a loss.
Now comes another all-important showdown up in the Upper Peninsula this weekend. These two rivals will play a home-and-home style series, Friday’s game will be at Northern Michigan and Saturday’s tilt will be up in Houghton.
These two played way back in October just before Halloween, a weekend sweep in favor of Tech. The Huskies have won five straight and 10 of 14 against the Wildcats going back to the 2013-14 season.

WESTERN MICHIGAN BRONCOS (18-8-4, 11-8-1 NCHC)
Hats off to Western Michigan once again as they took down the defending champion North Dakota Fighting Hawks, sweeping UND and taking the season series, three games to one.
The Broncos stand pat in the top 10 of the latest USCHO polls. That’s now 11 wins in their last 15 games going back to before the GLI Tournament at Joe Louis Arena. This weekend, they are back on the road playing Colorado College. The Tigers (7-20-3, 3-14-3 NCHC) went 0-1-1 against previously No. 1 Minnesota-Duluth last weekend, and have just one win in their last 10 games.
The Broncos were responsible for two of those defeats for the Tigers, roughly about a month ago in Kalamazoo outscoring them 7-2 in the two games.
