Only four teams are still playing since last weekend’s action. Three teams saw their seasons come to a close:
- Ferris State: Swept in the WCHA Quarterfinals stage on the road at Bowling Green, outscored 11-4 in the two games played. They finish the year 13-19-5 (12-12-4 WCHA). Senior Gerald Mayhew finishes his FSU totaling 52 goals and 119 points in 150 games played for the Bulldogs.
- Lake Superior State: Swept in the WCHA Quarterfinals on the road against rival Michigan Tech, outscored 14-4 in the two games played. They finish the year 11-18-7 (8-13-7 WCHA). They finish with just five wins over their final 23 games played after opening the year 6-1.
- Northern Michigan: Loses in the WCHA Quarterfinals on the road vs. top-seeded Bemidji State, two games to one. They finish the season at 13-22-4 (10-15-3 WCHA). The Wildcats finished strong despite the premature exit, going 9-5-2 over their final 16 games played.

MICHIGAN WOLVERINES (11-18-3, 4-12-4 Big Ten)
Michigan earned a split at home against Minnesota last weekend. They won the first game of the weekend series 5-3 after being down 2-0 in the first period. The win also earned them consecutive victories since early November.
It’s the regular season finale for the Wolverines this weekend. They will stay home and close out the season at Yost against Penn State (21-9-2, 10-7-1 Big Ten). The Nittany Lions split with Wisconsin last weekend in their home finale of the season.
These two opened up conference play way back in the beginning of December, with Penn State winning both games and outscoring Michigan 11-1. The Wolverines are just 3-9-1 away from home this year.

MICHIGAN STATE SPARTANS (7-22-3, 3-13-2, Big Ten)
Michigan State also played to a split last weekend, avoiding a season sweep at the hands of Ohio State by winning the first game. In that win, they held a 4-0 lead entering the third period before hanging on to win, 5-4.
Like Michigan, they too conclude the season with the team they opened up league play with, Minnesota, this time in Minneapolis. The Gophers as we mentioned before split with Michigan last weekend in Ann Arbor, and will be playing in their home finale, where they are 10-3-1 this season.
The Spartans are hoping they can carry at least some of that scoring momentum from last weekend into these final two games of the season. The eight goals combined in the two games last week was the most MSU scored in any of their true road series this season.

MICHIGAN TECH HUSKIES (20-13-7, 15-7-6 WCHA)
Michigan Tech did more than just ‘survive and advance’ last weekend against in-state league rival Lake Superior. They throttled the Lakers, potting 14 goals and advancing to the conference tournament semifinals.
They now have a date with Minnesota State (21-11-4, 15-9-4 WCHA) at home this weekend. The Mavericks dispatched Alaska last weekend at home, outscoring the Nanooks 7-1 in the two games played. Overall, they’ve won three straight and six of seven.
Minnesota State went 2-1-1 against the Huskies this year, but the two wins came back in the season opener and at home. The winner of this series will go on to play the winner of Bowling Green/Bemidji State match-up in the WCHA Championship next weekend. Tech is 9-3-4 at home, 4-2-3 in their last nine.

WESTERN MICHIGAN BRONCOS (20-9-5, 13-9-2 NCHC)
Western Michigan played to a hard-fought and even-tilted split at home last weekend against Minnesota-Duluth, each team scoring ten goals in the series. With a win, the Broncos eclipsed the 20-win mark for the first time in five seasons.
Now it’s conference tournament time for Western Michigan. The quarterfinal stage of the 8-team field will be a best-of-three series format, with the four highest seeds hosting the four lowest seeds. WMU finished 3rd in the NCHC with 42 points, they will play host to 6-seed Omaha (16-15-5, 9-13-2 NCHC), who finished with 29 points in league play.
The two teams met just once earlier in the season, a split at Omaha roughly a month ago. The Broncos, winners in four of their last six, will welcome in the Mavericks, who are coming off a sweep of top-seeded (nationally) Denver and are losers in five of their last seven overall.
