Weekly Recap: Tigers again squander chances to gain ground in playoff chase

Minnesota Twins

What the Tigers did with the Twins last week at home in a four-game series was simply inexcusable. One has to tip their hat to the young Twins offense that actually can hold their own, but to not feast on the awful Twins pitching staff in all four games is once again, inexcusable.

What Detroit does have going for them heading into Tuesday’s start of a three-game set in Minnesota is that they are a perfect 6-0 so far this year at Target Field and averaging better than seven runs per game in those six trips.

Kansas City Royals

The Royals saved what started as a nightmare-ish week when they got straight steamrolled by the Athletics at home, swept in four games and outscored by an eye-popping 43-12. A pair of weekend victories over the White Sox however did keep them afloat for the time being. Detroit has a prime opportunity to put the final nail in the coffin and end KC’s chances of making a third consecutive trip to the postseason.

The good news is that the Tigers will roll out Fulmer, Norris and Boyd in that weekend series at Comerica Park. They have to win the series, have to. A sweep would be most preferable. Anything short is unacceptable at this point.
