For weeks now, Detroit Lions fans — including myself — have been lobbying for owner Sheila Ford Hamp to use her power to fire Matt Patricia and his buddy, Bob Quinn.

During their time together, Patricia and Quinn have proven that they are in over their head. Quinn could not build a winning football team on Madden Football, while Patricia has proven to be one of the worst head coaches in Lions’ franchise history, and that is saying something.
All of that being said, there is no question about it that Patricia — and likely Quinn — will not be back in 2021, but there is actually a solid reason as to why Sheila should allow them to finish out the season.
The reason is simple.
Losing football games is actually a good thing for the Lions at this point and who is better for making that happen than Patricia and Quinn? Answer: NOBODY!
With their loss on Thanksgiving, the Lions currently sit in the No. 9 position in the 2021 NFL Draft order but if they play their cards right and LOSE, LOSE, and LOSE, they could easily end up with a top 5 overall pick.
If the Lions do end up with a Top 5 pick, they would likely have another shot to land Matthew Stafford‘s successor at quarterback. And this time, they would have a new GM who would not be dumb enough to take a cornerback with the No. 3 overall pick!
So, if Sheila does decide to fire Patricia and Quinn in the coming days, she will make a lot of Lions’ fans very happy. But if she decides to hold on to them for the remainder of the season, that may end up working out even better.
